Engineering expertise, applied where it matters most.

ABOUT MORNING STAR PROJECTS

Morning Star Projects is a Limerick-based mechanical engineering contractor providing BER assessments, heat pump installation, Technical Advisor services, and full residential mechanical services across Munster.

Built on two decades of mechanical engineering experience

OUR STORY

Morning Star Projects was founded with a straightforward purpose: to bring proper engineering rigour to residential energy and mechanical services in Munster — an area where demand for high-quality heat pump installation, ventilation design, and building energy assessment is growing rapidly, but where genuinely qualified practitioners remain scarce.

The business draws on over 20 years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience spanning HVAC design, heat pump systems, building services, and energy assessment. That depth of background shapes everything we do — from how we size a heating system to how we advise a homeowner on the most practical route to heat pump grant eligibility.

We trade as Morning Star Projects and operate from Co. Limerick, serving residential clients across Munster. We are registered with SEAI as both a BER Assessor and a Technical Advisor under the Better Energy Homes programme, and hold the necessary contractor accreditations for grant-aided heat pump installation.

Who You’re Dealing With.

THE FOUNDER

Morning Star Projects is owner-operated. When you engage us, you work directly with James — an experienced mechanical engineer with deep knowledge of heating systems, building energy, and the SEAI grant process.

James Murphy

Founder & Director — Morning Star Building & Energy Ltd

James is a mechanical engineer with over 20 years of experience in Mechanical Services Design & Installation in high tech sectors including pharmaceutical and data centres. He founded Morning Star Projects to provide a genuinely engineering-led alternative to the residential energy and mechanical services market in Munster.

He holds SEAI accreditation as a registered BER Assessor and Technical Advisor, and is an SEAI-accredited heat pump installer. James also holds a Project Management qualification from the Institute of Project Management Ireland (IPMI). This formal project management background — combined with his engineering experience — means that projects are handled with structured planning, clear communication, and disciplined delivery from start to finish.

Every technical assessment, heat pump design, and mechanical installation is closely supervised by James — meaning the person assessing your home is the same person accountable for the outcome.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Our Values.

A few principles shape how we work on every project, regardless of scale.

Calculate, don't estimate.

Heating systems are sized from heat loss calculations. Ventilation systems are designed to flow rate standards. We don't work off rule of thumb where a number is needed.

Straight answers.

If a heat pump isn't right for your home right now, we'll tell you. If the cheapest upgrade route isn't the best one, we'll explain why. You get our honest assessment, not the one that suits the sale.

Clear scope, clear price.

Every job starts with a written quotation that sets out exactly what's included. We don't add surprises at invoice stage.

Long-term thinking

We design heating and ventilation systems that will perform well for years — not ones that pass inspection and underperform in use. Low-temperature design and future heat pump compatibility are built into our approach from the start.

WHERE WE WORK.

Service Area.

We are based in Knocklong, Co. Limerick and serve residential clients across Munster. For the right project, we are willing to travel further afield — get in touch to discuss.

Our primary service area covers Co. Limerick and the surrounding Munster counties. Being locally based means we can schedule site visits promptly, respond quickly when projects need us, and bring genuine knowledge of the building types and local conditions in the region.
